Inclusive Practices Coordinator
How long have you been working at Connect Charter School?
I am in my fifth year working at Connect Charter. Throughout my time here I have taught grade 4 humanities, and am eager to begin my role as Inclusive Practices Coordinator this fall (2019).
What is your educational/professional background?
I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Mount Royal University, minoring in teaching ESL. The majority of my employment experiences prior to becoming a teacher involved working with individuals who have complex needs, in and outside of school settings. I strive to make each student feel like a valued member of our community, while celebrating diversity in the classroom.
What brought you to Connect?
I was so fortunate as a student teacher to be placed at Connect for my final practicum, and then refused to leave! Connect has helped develop my teaching philosophy while working alongside a brilliant group of colleagues.
What do you consider the best part of working at our school?
Our STUDENTS are the best part of working at Connect, among many other things!
Tell us a bit about your family.
My husband, Patrick, and I live along the Bow river in a cosy community with our puppy, Penny. We travel often to see our families, who are spread out across BC.
What do you like to do when you’re not at Connect? After work, cooking dinner with a playlist on is my favourite way to unwind. I love taking our dog Penny for a walk or run, and to the dog park when she can meet other pups. We keep busy in our household with home renovation projects, co-ed softball, social gatherings, and taking any opportunity to travel somewhere sunny!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know about you? Most people don’t know that I was a competitive gymnast growing up, and still love to do backflips off things!
