Year end Message
Good afternoon Connect parents;
Well, my friends, we have reached the conclusion of a far-from-ordinary 2019-2020 school year. I wish to begin this final message of the year with an expression of my sincere gratitude to you, our parents, for your support, resilience, and adaptability during the last 3 months. So much was unknown on March 16th when we introduced Connected e-Learning, and although our province is in the midst of relaunching the economy, there still exists considerable uncertainty about what next school year will look like. We understand that planning for the immediate future is challenging without a concrete plan in place, however we must all wait for direction from Alberta Education and AHS on August 1st.
We have planned extensively for the three scenarios put forward by Alberta Education as re-entry options: resume full school operations, begin partial in-school operations, or continue e-learning. Each of these possibilities keeps the health of students and staff at the centre of the planning process and leads to some expectations for students and parents that may seem overly protective but which are designed to protect all of us from contracting COVID-19. On August 1, we anticipate being directed to implement one of these options. Either of the first two options that involve students physically returning to school will result in changes to our start up and operation in August. Accommodations to ensure the health and safety of students and staff will be implemented and are part of a very comprehensive re-entry plan that will be shared to the Connect community as soon as we are advised which scenario will be in place for school opening.
Term 3 report cards were emailed to parents on June 24th and 25th. If you did not receive your child’s report card, check your spam folder as it may have been redirected as an unknown sender.
Screen Time Video
Due to the complexity of trying to collect all the student devices in circulation, as well as the recognized benefit of providing students with a means to safely connect with friends, we opted to leave technology with our returning students for the summer. As parents, you have the ultimate authority over how much screen time your child has and can even choose to eliminate it altogether. The following video, created by David Cloutier and Shannon Bennett, provides some support and suggestions for you to monitor and set guidelines for appropriate device use during the summer break.
Receptionist/ Office Assistant Posting
Tara Foster, our receptionist in the front office, has resigned from Connect and will be returning to Ontario with her family. While we will miss Tara and her family in the Connect community, we are now posting the position on the school website at www.connectcharter.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Receptionist-Office-Assistant-ad-June2020.pdf. Applications will be accepted until July 24th with interviews to take place shortly thereafter.
Staff Appreciation Event
Thank you to School Council for hosting this event for staff last week.
Year end video
On Monday and Tuesday of this week we conducted virtual assemblies to bring some closure to this year in a manner that is consistent with Connect tradition… the year end video. In case you missed it, here is the link…
As we are fond of repeating, we may not be a community school but we are a very strong, resilient, and committed school community at Connect. Our strength is derived from the passion, expertise, and dedication of our staff, as well as from the trust and confidence all of you have in our program and our vision to prepare our students as extraordinary citizens. Our students bring their curiosity about life and the world around them, and together we open the doors and windows to let them seek the answers and to ‘learn how to learn’ through a process of inquiry. Thank you for your ongoing support; we are looking forward to a new school year with renewed opportunities for teaching, learning, and leading at Connect.
Have a safe and wonder filled summer everyone…see you in August.
